Aspen Highlands

  • Aspen Highlands

In 1958 the legendary Whip Jones opened Aspen Highlands. Highlands offers amazing views of the world-famous Maroon Bells, over 1,028 acres to ski with 3,635 vertical feet, 125 trails, the longest of which is 3.5 miles, and 5 chairlifts. Aspen Highlands is known as “the local’s mountain.”  It was the last of the four ski mountains in the area to come under the control of the Aspen Skiing Company in the 1990s.  Today, Highlands retains the independent ethos and unique vibe that has endeared this mountain in the hearts of locals and visitors alike.

The terrain of Aspen Highlands is one of those places you simply can’t get tired of skiing.  And the Highland Bowl, well that is slice of heaven on earth. Rising 800 vertical feet above the highest chairlift Highland Bowl is the place to be on a powder day. People wait in anticipation on Powder days just to feel the clouds float beneath their skis and snowboards. The reason its such a hot spot for fresh tracks is that there are no lifts to this portion of the mountain. Typically it takes about 45 minutes to hike to the top. But the hike is well worth it! The views alone will have you writing home to mom!

If you don't feel like hiking but still have a hunger for powder then you can thank Ski Co. for adding 230 acres of expert and advanced terrain. To service the 1,700 vertical foot rise Ski Co. has installed a fast moving triple chair lift named Deep Temerity which will only take 7 minutes to get you to the top.

If you happen to find yourself at Aspen Highlands on the last day of the season then you're in for a treat. Some consider it to be the cross between spring break on skis and Mardi Gras. People get dressed up as though they were headed to a Halloween party. The main event is watching these dressed characters skim across a make shift pond at the bottom of the slopes. This is a yearly tradition that is a manifestation of the mountains unique spirit. For the best ski equipment available at the 4 area ski resorts stop by our Aspen or Snowmass Locations.
