Spring Snow

Sunday, March 17th, 2013

Spring skiing is in full swing and the outfits on the mountain are getting funky! Oh… and there’s more snow in the forecast for the end of this week!

Aspen Snowmass just hosted part of the Freeskier Magazine 2014 ski tests at our mountains this past week. Their gang was ripping up Aspen Mountain for 5 days, pushing all of the latest and greatest skis to their limits. The results will be featured in their 2014 Buyer’s Guide.  Here’s a link to some of the highlights:

Also, here’s a video that’ll blow your mind. 13-year old snowboarder, Marcus Kleveland, lands his first ever backside triple cork 1440, making him the youngest to ever land a triple on snowboard.

Spring Break!!!

Friday, March 8th, 2013

The snow keeps on coming and the action is heating up with spring break just around the corner! There are tons of fun events coming up this month in Aspen Snowmass. Bud Light Big Air Fridays will continue every week through the end of the month. A couple other competitions coming up soon are the KickAspen Big Air on the 23rd and the Buttermilk Snowboard Rail Jam on the 31st. There are some awesome ski races coming up as well, such as the NASTAR National Championships on the 20th, the Elk Mountains Grand Traverse on the 29th, and the Battle in the Bowls at Aspen Highlands on the 30th.

This is one of the best times of year to take a ski vacation (and work on your goggle tan). The snow coverage is great, and the weather is even better! Get your friends together and start planning now, and don’t forget to reserve your ski rentals early.

p.s. More snow is on the way. 4-7” tonight and another 4-7” through Saturday! (Read as: POWDER DAY!) Check out our Facebook page for more frequent updates as we’ll be posting some pictures over the next couple of days. Click below to drop in.

Bluebird Powder Day 2/18/13

Happy snow day! This week it’s looking like the stars will align again and the clouds will open up and cover us with a deep fluffy white blanket of snow. The weather forecast for the Aspen Snowmass area through the weekend is calling for snow, some more snow…. and a bit more snow.

Some popular rental skis this week have been our wider all mountain skis. For the guys, the K2 Aftershock, Volkl Mantra, and Rossignol Experience have been the hot skis. For the gals, ski rentals such as the Volkl Aura, Rossignol Temptation, and the K2 Superstitious have been leaving vapor trails as they fly out our doors.

In snowboard alley, the High Society Twilight and Lib Tech Skate Banana have been popular for the dudes as well as the K2 First Lite boards for the girls.

If you make it out this weekend you might catch a few of us making laps on the Silver Queen Gondola at Aspen Mountain.

SIA and Snow!!

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Guess what? We’ve got snow! The last winter storm that rolled through this area at the beginning of last week left Snowmass with about 14 inches of new snow for the storm total, Aspen Mountain reported 19 inches of powder, while Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands got 17 and 15 inches respectively. And that’s not all, because another snow storm is in the weather forecast to hit us this coming weekend! Ullr is finally giving us the weather we’ve been waiting for!

Some of our crew was lucky enough to spend last weekend over in Denver at the SIA Snow Show. They were there checking out all of the new ski and snowboard gear for the 2013-2014 season. Then on Monday and Tuesday they were burdened with the task of taking the skis and snowboards to the snow and testing them out. Our rental skis and snowboards for next year are looking pretty sweet!

Days To Come

Hey rippers! Here’s little update to get you stoked. The high pressure system that was hanging around the Roaring Fork Valley here has moved on, and we’re getting snowed on again! As always, the reports are varying quite a bit for snow predictions, but on the low end we should end up with around to 6-10 inches for the storm total in the Aspen and Snowmass area. A more optimistic weather forecast is calling for around 1.5 feet in isolated areas. So regardless, we’ve got some powder skiing to look forward to! I can already hear the dedicated hollering, “Woohooo!” as they make first tracks this weekend.

A local production company, Vital Films, just released a short ski film called “Days to Come” starring Torin Yater-Wallace, Gus Kenworthy, Aiden Sheahan and Jacob Wester. It was shot entirely in the Aspen/Snowmass area, featuring the Winter X Games Slopestyle course and Superpipe at Buttermilk, as well as the terrain park at Snowmass. Check it out
