Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands Open For the Season

Monday, December 16th, 2013

As of last Saturday, Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands are open for the season. Aspen Highlands opened with a bang, offering plenty of powder to those who showed up. The groomed runs were sweet at Buttermilk with some fun features in the terrain park open as well. The 2013-2014 ski season is shaping up to be pretty awesome!

At the shop here we’ve been testing out the new ski and snowboard equipment we have for hire. We’ve been really impressed with what companies like Volkl, K2, Rossignol, and Salomon have been doing with their skis. Johnny was out on the new Rome Reverb Rocker the other day and came back grinning from ear to ear. We’re stoked to have Rome Snowboards as part of our rentals this year.

Stop by our shop and say hi when you’re in town for the Holidays. Don’t forget to book your rentals in advance right here on our website to receive a great discount. Hope to see you soon!

Is it Winter Yet?

I love the summer months; however, when the days start to hit 90, I begin to dream of soft powder! Granted the summer months allow me to hike the great peaks of Aspen and Snowmass. Nothing really compares to hiking highlands bowl with a foot of fresh waiting for you.

Nevertheless, we must wait until Thanksgiving for the season to begin. Dreams of ski rentals and snowboard rentals will soon return. The leaves will change. And, the snow will begin to fall.

Friday, March 8th, 2013

The snow keeps on coming and the action is heating up with spring break just around the corner! There are tons of fun events coming up this month in Aspen Snowmass. Bud Light Big Air Fridays will continue every week through the end of the month. A couple other competitions coming up soon are the KickAspen Big Air on the 23rd and the Buttermilk Snowboard Rail Jam on the 31st. There are some awesome ski races coming up as well, such as the NASTAR National Championships on the 20th, the Elk Mountains Grand Traverse on the 29th, and the Battle in the Bowls at Aspen Highlands on the 30th.

This is one of the best times of year to take a ski vacation (and work on your goggle tan). The snow coverage is great, and the weather is even better! Get your friends together and start planning now, and don’t forget to reserve your ski rentals early.

p.s. More snow is on the way. 4-7” tonight and another 4-7” through Saturday! (Read as: POWDER DAY!) Check out our Facebook page for more frequent updates as we’ll be posting some pictures over the next couple of days. Click below to drop in.

SIA and Snow!!

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Guess what? We’ve got snow! The last winter storm that rolled through this area at the beginning of last week left Snowmass with about 14 inches of new snow for the storm total, Aspen Mountain reported 19 inches of powder, while Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands got 17 and 15 inches respectively. And that’s not all, because another snow storm is in the weather forecast to hit us this coming weekend! Ullr is finally giving us the weather we’ve been waiting for!

Some of our crew was lucky enough to spend last weekend over in Denver at the SIA Snow Show. They were there checking out all of the new ski and snowboard gear for the 2013-2014 season. Then on Monday and Tuesday they were burdened with the task of taking the skis and snowboards to the snow and testing them out. Our rental skis and snowboards for next year are looking pretty sweet!

Snow hits Aspen/Snowmass!

Wednesday, December 19th, 2012

Greetings from Aspen Snowmass! With Christmas just a week out, Santa has delivered over a foot of snowfall. While at work, the Incline crew is dreaming of slaying the fresh snow at the Highlands bowl. Snow totals at Highlands will be around 1.5-2 feet! Only a few brave souls dared to call in today “claiming” a brief 24 hour ailment.
Ski breaks will be the theme of today! For all the travelers anxiously awaiting arrival to the Aspen area, they can find solace in the fact that another snow event is scheduled for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

Mardi Gras in the Mountains

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Happy Fat Tuesday from Snowmass Village!  Those of you who have not been a part of this celebration you have been missing out.  We have a surprising Lousiana contingent that comes to Snowmass Village for this week every year.  There is a parade, an uphill race, bar specials, and plenty of beads!  If you were here today for this years celebration you were able to enjoy some great skiing.  We’ve got 4″ off fresh snow today keeping the mountain soft.  The skiing has remained stellar and in the last couple of weeks I’ve enjoyed fresh turns in the Highland Bowl, the Hanging Valley Wall, and all over Ajax.  Weather wise we are getting into a spring pattern where we’ve been receiving a good amount of snowfall with warm- sunny weather in between.  Average highs for this month are around 40 degrees which is welcomed after the long cold winter.  I’m still skiing my Volkl Bridges primarily but I’ve had some fun days on the Nordica Tempest and the Salomon Shogun.  Aspen and Snowmass are open for 5 more weeks and we get Highlands for an extra 2 weeks after that.  Time to make plans to get out to the mountains for some spring skiing while you can!
